Abstract: This research titled "Impact of Carbon Black from Gasoline Engine on Flow of Current" was conducted with objective to ascertain the extent of current flow in a circuit containing carbon black. The carbon black was collected from tailpipe of 5000KVA gasoline generator after the gasoline had undergone deflagration. A simple circuit was set up with the rheostat, voltmeter, ammeter, a 12-volts battery and a fixed resistor value of 2Ω. The rheostat was adjusted to obtain a suitable value of current and potential difference (p.d) which were recorded as Io = 2.14A and Vo = 4.24V. Herein carbon black was connected to the circuit which showed no readable result of current flow. Afterwards 5ml of dilute H2SO4 in 15ml syringe was connected in series with the fixed resistor and the reading of current and p.d were taken as Is = 2.13A Vs = 4.26V. Thereafter 0.4g mass of carbon black was added to the dilute H2SO4 and same mass subsequently added in until it summed up to 4.0g of carbon black. At each instant of addition of 0.4g of carbon black the values of current and p.d were recorded. It was found from the results that the addition of the carbon black to dilute H2SO4 solution increased p.d and reduced the current flow. This simply implies that carbon contained in the carbon black acted as semiconductor at intrinsic state which also resisted the flow of current when doped with dilute H2SO4.

Abstract: The integration of Ground Penetration Radar (GPR), magnetic and electrical resistivity methods revealed detailed and cost effective identification of zones of potential archaeological interest at the theatre of war in Igbajo. The Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) were acquired using the GSSI SIR 3000, the magnetic method were acquired using the proton precession magnetometer while Ohmega resistivity was used to acquire the electrical resistivity data. The applications of geophysical method to delineate the depth and locations of archaeological materials have been demonstrated. The result of the magnetic survey showed regions of high magnetic intensity which indicates the existence of certain buried artifacts; this assisted in the gridding of the Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) profiles. Significant features were observed on the radargram which correlates with high resistivity anomalies observed on the inversion profile. It was observed that a region of high resistivity values on the inversion coincides with the ground penetrating radar on the radargram. The results show that the region with the highest resistivity between 510 - 54959 Ohm-m and at depths between 0.5-3 m from the resistivity inversion indicates the possible presence of artifacts which can further be confirmed through excavation

Abstract: The electromagnetic profiling in the Sunshine Garden Estate, Oba-Ile has contributed to a better understanding of the basement complex terrain of Southwestern Nigeria. The use of Electromagnetic profiling for both water quality evaluations and groundwater resource mapping has increased significantly over the years. The EM profiling has proved very common with groundwater investigation because it helps to identify subsurface structures yielding groundwater and also helps in delineating groundwater contaminated zone The result shows values of the filtered imaginary vary from -35.1 to 64.8 while that of the raw real ranges from -19 to 35.1 across the study area. The profiles for the EM sections contain small filtered anomaly in the imaginary part and significant maxima in the real part. Zones with peak positive filtered real anomalies are considered priority areas for groundwater development in the study area since its correlates with zones of high conductivity which is a characteristic of water filled faults or fractures Sites with high electromagnetic anomaly (high positive filtered real anomaly) as shown in the EM profile can be expected to be aquifers, implying locations suitable for the groundwater development in the study area

Abstract: In Civil Engineering 'Cement' plays the important role as it is impossible to produce any sustainable infrastructure without use of cement. We can say everything is incomplete without 'Cement' as construction is the factor which rapidly growing with new innovations and ideas. Rice husk ash (RHA) industrial are a by-product from the burning of rice husk. Rice husk is extremely prevalent in East and South-East Asia because of the rice production in this area. The rich land and tropical climate make for perfect conditions to cultivate rice and is taken advantage by these Asian countries. Therefore the entire rice product is used in an efficient and environmentally friendly approach. In this article we will be exploring the common processes of burning rice husk and the advantages of using the burnt ash in cement to facilitate structural development primarily in the East and South-East Asian regions. We will be investigating prior research from various sources, as well as prepare specimens of our own to perform a range of strength tests. The levels of replacement of cement by rice husk ash, and glass powder are 5%, 10%, 15% and 20%. The properties which are determined and compared in this study are workability, 7, 14, 21 and 28 days compressive strength. Pozzolanas are an important ingredient in the production of alternative cementing materials to Portland cement reactive aggregates. Waste glass powder in proper proportion can be used to resist chemical attack. The aim of this project work is to use rice husk ash and glass powder in the range 5%, 10%, 15% and 20% of as replacement of cement and concrete cube, cylinder and beam strength compared with conventional concrete cubes, cylinder and beam respectively. The present study investigates the effect of pozzolanic material in concrete and hence improving the strength of concrete. This work evaluates the performance of Rice Husk Ash and glass powder as a partial replacement of cement in concrete. In this project the rice husk ash percentage is with same replacement of glass powder. The strength properties of concrete are compared with the above varying percentage and the result on which it gives maximum strength is found out.

Abstract: Today a vast shortage of fuel made us humans to search for the alternative sources of energy. These sources took various forms as natural as well as from the waste. Waste from best was the tagline for many years. Objective of this was to get best energy source with less harm to the environment. Thus a new term called Biomass (Coir pith) came to birth. It was nothing but using waste from food industries and household for obtaining the fuels. These fuels were in various forms liquid, semi solid viz. Thus further fuels were stored in form of their state so that they can be used at the time of necessity. Here we are manufacturing a device which in output gives a coir pith briquette which can be used as per need. The production value was found to be lower due to the lower binder requirement for the new machine, which is lower by about 65%. The starting moisture content of the feedstock required for this machine is lower by about 30 % compared to the best alternative, which results in shorter drying time for the fuel briquettes produced. The quality of the produced briquettes was found to be better and of lower smoke generation when burned due to the lower binder content.

DOI: 10.17148/IARJSET.2019.6411
Abstract: Corex process is one of the modern technologies used for iron making. This process utilizes the hot gases from the melter gasifier. There are huge ducts included into the process. One of their ducts viz. the Reduction gas duct has a slant duct below the reduction shaft which has been displaced from its original position over the years by 57 mm. In this project, the causes of such movement in the duct are to be investigated. There are number of expansion joints used along duct carrying the hot gases which accommodate thermal expansion of the ducts due to temperature changes. The movement of reduction gas duct could be related to the structural vibrations due to the gas flow in the process. Pressure of gas in the process is about 0.3 MPa and temperature is about 8500C. So, as combined effect of pressure and temperature, the duct movement may take place. Hence the problem was taken up for analysis.
